San Jose Mercury News, RESTAURANT REVIEW, Aleta
Watson, June, 2007From the dining room at Sam's Chowder House,
the view stretches 180 degrees, taking in the graceful arc
of Half Moon Bay from Pillar Point to Miramontes Point. Below,
fishing boats work their way into the nearby harbor and surfers
ply world-class waves at Mavericks. No restaurant menu can
hope to trump a vista like this. Complicated dishes and innovative
flavor combinations would be lost on diners mesmerized by
the ever-shifting panorama of sea and sky. Read

Santa Cruz Sentinal, RESTAURANT REVIEW, Ann Parker,
Sunday, January 28, 2007I'm
always looking for an excuse to make that stunningly beautiful

Chowder House, a New England-style seafood restaurant located
just above Half Moon Bay. "It's the only outdoor oceanfront
dining between San Francisco and Santa Cruz," said Paul Shenkman,
who opened Sam's with his wife Julie last November. Read more...

San Francisco Chronicle, RESTAURANT REVIEW, Michael
Bauer, Sunday, January 28, 2007As we drove into the parking lot at Sam's Chowder
House in Half Moon Bay, we passed a black Porsche Carrera
and eased in next to a gold Bentley -- high-class company
for my Miata at a modest chowder house that's been open only
three months. "I wonder who drove the Bentley?"
I asked my companion as we were seated in the back beyond
the open kitchen, circular fireplace and rows of tables. Read

Cetrella
owner to bring chowder house to Half Moon Bay
Things are going south in the food business these days -- and east, and north -- as restaurants and gourmet stores open on all sides of the bay. As he takes over the old Anchorage restaurant, just north of Half Moon Bay (4210 N. Cabrillo Hwy.), Cetrella owner Paul Shenkman is realizing his dream of owning the cliffside property he first spied when he moved to the Bay Area nearly 20 years ago. Read
